BorderLESS Voices

2024

De Rosa's performance takes its cue from her latest series entitled Megaphone. Through poetry, the artist draws on the concept of the borderless nation, prompting an introspection on the very essence of nationality. Venturing into the realm of (Col)Laterality, she speaks of the enigmatic spaces of outsiders, the spaces of others, transcending the boundaries of the transnational. Here, amidst the stark realities of poverty, she persists with the questions: "What does Nationality mean?” and "Where do I belong to?", creating connection beyond the boundaries of conventional belonging. Packed and sewn into a cloth, as a metaphor for how society tends to sew, define and govern bodies, De Rosa speaks of Roma and marginalized, voiceless bodies, but also of how these silenced voices reverberate through the corridors of history, bearing witness to the intricate interplay between religion, ethnicity and power dynamics. And as the reading comes to an end, the scream rips through the veil of indifference, testifying to the enduring spirit of resistance, engraved in the very fabric of Roma identity.
